Grass Seeds
Our new tailor-made CF Grass seed mixtures offer livestock farmer's high performance leys providing quality grazing and forage.
Pasture as a Management Tool
The pasture you choose to have on your farm is probably one of the most powerful management tools you have available to improve your profitability. The selection of good productive grassland along with good pasture management can provide dramatic increases in farm produced energy compared to unimproved grassland and can help save on significant bought-in feed costs.
The most common questions regarding the value of reseeding :
- Is reseeding really worth it?
- How much will it cost per acre?
- What will the first year improvement give me?
- How long will it take to pay off the cost?
A survey of farmers the length and breadth of the UK suggest the average reseed cost is around £120 per acre. Averaged over 5 years £24 per acre per year.
Yield Expectations - Grass yields usually decline steadily over 4 years. A new reseed should be expected to increase yields by at least 500kg DM per acre, in many instances but possibly by 1500kg DM per acre.

Put very simply, at even the lowest increased yield expectation, reseeding should be paid for within one year!
Short Term Mixtures
Short Term Ley 13kg per acre
- The primary use is to produce high quality silage or haylage with up to 4 or 5 cuts per year.
- Polly Hybrid Ryegrass is included to improve groundcover and grow compatibly with the rest of the crop.
- With excellent early spring growth it can be used to provide additional grazing during the growing season.
- Highly responsive to Nitrogen and can produce up to 16 tonnes of high D value dry matter per Ha in its first season.
Xtra Time 25kg pack
- Ideal short-term solution to providing extra grass whenever you need it.
- Made from diploid and tetraploid Italian rye grasses.
- Gives speedy spring growth and fast regrowth for up to 18 months after sowing.
- Suitable for sowing after arable silage, whole crop or in the autumn after a maize crop has been harvested.
Xtra Pro Red 25kg pack
- A highly nutritious 2-year ley mixture designed to provide excellent yields of high protein, high energy forage for winter feeding but can be beneficially grazed by all grades of livestock.
- As well as producing high quality forage, it will also fix soil nitrogen, enhancing soil fertility and reducing the need for artificial fertilizers.
- Ideal protein source to use alongside maize or wholecrop cereals (Energy 12.0 ME and a conserved crude protein over 17%)
- The capacity of yields of up to 14 tonnes DM per Ha in its first year and good second year production.
- Quick to regrow after each cut and is tolerant of summer drought conditions due to the deep tap root of the red clover.
- It can be grazed in late summer and autumn by either cattle or sheep but care should be taken over the possibilities of bloat.
Medium Term Mixtures
Graze & Cut 13kg per acre
- Ideal multi-use ley to suit almost every farming situation
- High flexible for either cutting or grazing over 5 years or more for either cattle or sheep.
- Aimed mainly at lower land farms where there is little use for timothy grass and suitable for either high input or more extensive farming conditions
- The early spring growth can be used for silage production over 1 or 2 cuts followed by aftermath grazing. Alternatively early growth can be used by lambs before closing off for later silage production.
Grazing Ley 13kg per acre
- Providing a dense, leafy sward ideal for grazing sheep throughout the summer and winter and more recently on dairy farms.
- Late perennial ryegrass varieties provide the excellent ground cover required by many dairy farmers during wetter periods on damper ground.
- Silage can be produced from excess growth, which is highly digestible due to the high quality leafy grasses.
Silage Ley 13kg per acre
- Designed to give high quality silage over several years and has been shown to improve ME levels over other grass mixtures when cut at similar times.
- Containing high levels of tetraploids, giving higher sugar production than other grasses to aid fermentation and also being more drought resistant.
- Produces high quality leafy grazing in mid summer
Xtra Bite 25kg pack
- A high yielding ley which will produce top quality herbage
- A mix of hybrid and perennial rye grasses
- Dual purpose ley with 4 year duration
- Contains true high sugar rye grasses to increase production
- Outstanding mildew and crown rust resistance
Long Term Mixtures
Long Term Ley 13kg per acre
- The flexibility of the ley lends itself to be used in many and varied growing conditions from fertile lowlands to the cooler, more severe growing conditions of the uplands.
- With its high seed count in time will produce a very dense sward highly suited to winter sheep grazing.
- The ley is very versatile whether ewes and lambs closely graze it during winter and early spring or for suckler cows producing milk for their calves. It will even quickly re-grow after being shut up to generate big yields of good quality silage or hay.
Endurance 13kg per acre
- Very successful blend of Early, Intermediate and Late Perennial Ryegrass and White Clover.
- Highly flexible for grazing by either cattle or sheep or used to give 1st class yields of early-cut silage before being used for summer grazing.
- Can be used to produce a big hay crop
- Suited to all soil types, has a good winter-hardiness rating and will produce a dense sward fairly quickly if grazed during its early life.
Tetra Graze 14kg per acre
- A blend of mainly late heading, tetraploid, perennial rye grasses, designed to provide high quality grazing and improved dry matter intakes.
- Ideally suited for dairy cow grazing because of its 100% high sugar tetraploid grass content. Trials in France and Belgium have shown increases in dry matter consumption. In UK trials milk production has increased by as much as 2 litres per cow per day.
- Being full of beneficial tetraploids, it also has a good tolerance of droughty conditions due to deeper more fibrous roots, making this ley a more efficient user of soil nitrogen.
