The history
Behind any great success story you can find one strong, simple
idea. One day in 1957, Marcel Braud, the founder of Manitou, thought
up the principle of an original device:
Why not turn round the shape of a farm tractor & add to it
a lifting mast and hydraulic steering?
Thus the world's first rough-terrain fork-lift truck was born.
It proved the company's success and led to it becoming world famous.
Now, the group based in Ancenis, in western France, and managed
since 1998 by Marcel Claude Braud (son of the founder), has a
consolidated turnover of 985.0 million euros in 2005.
With its 2,243 staff, seventeen subsidiaries and 500 points of
sale throughout the globe, Manitou is the world leader in rough-terrain
fork-lift trucks.
Today, Manitou can offer the widest range on the market in three
major sectors of activity:
Building
Agriculture
Industry
The group now has a presence in over 120 countries. North and
South America, Japan, Australia and South Africa are all familiar
with the Manitou brand.
The Manitou range
Since the late 1980s, the economics of farming have changed radically.
The consequences are striking: there has been a marked reduction
in the number of farms, with the average size of holding increasing
in proportion. Farmers have greater acreage to manage, and often
with a diversification of activity - mixed farms, stockbreeding
and so forth.
During its many years' experience in the agricultural market,
MANITOU has been continually adapting its range to meet these
changes. In response to the demand for greater productivity, MANITOU
has designed a range of fork-lift trucks to meet the changing
needs of farmers.

After sales & spare parts
For many years, after-sales was seen as a necessary evil; now
Manitou has made its name and even won international recognition
for the way it can deliver fast and efficient after-sales help
where it is needed.
Breakdowns occur in the best-run businesses, which is why the
Manitou After-sales Service has taken on the resources to anticipate
the unexpected. Its sales networks are continually learning, its
technicians have the latest diagnostic tools, it carries out customer
satisfaction surveys, and it is continually extending the services
on offer to its users.
Its extensive network brings Manitou close to its users, ensuring
a speedy and effective response to calls for help whether getting
a vehicle on the road, mending a breakdown or carrying out routine
maintenance.
For twenty years - and often more - after the sale of a machine,
it will need to be supplied with spare parts. Manitou has pulled
out all the stops to rise to the challenge of delivering this
service to its 3,000 customers, dealers and major accounts across
the globe.
When you choose Manitou original spares, you enjoy many advantages:
Availability
Fast delivery
A guarantee of compliance & safety
20 years: Availability : you can be sure that all spares for a
Manitou model will remain available for at least 20 years after
it has gone out of production.
Finance
Manitou Finance recognises that each business is different. The
nature & structure of your business will dictate which finance
package is best suited to you. You can choose whether you eventually
want to own the machine or simply have the use of it and return
it to the dealer at the end of the agreement.
