Mission to India

Monday 16th March 2009

Helen Jones, part time retail assistant from Cornwall Farmers Country Store in Bideford, is embarking on a life changing trip to GOA in India for 3 weeks.  Helen will be working with a street children orphange called 'El Shaddai Street Child Rescue' in a village called Chimbal near Panjin, Goa, India.

Helen will be taking children’s clothes, donated by herself, friends and Cornwall Farmers and money, raised by herself, the North Devon Army Cadets and the Portobellow Inn, Bideford, to purchase educational toys and go towards the running costs of the orphanage.

When asked why go?  Helen remarked, “Before working at Cornwall Farmers Country Stores, Bideford, I worked as a trained nurse for 18 years and being involved in something like this, making a difference for less privileged children, was always something I wanted to do.  I wanted to help give them a better chance for a future, to get them off the streets and give them love and protection.  To get clothes on their backs, food in their bellies and give them the chance of an education to get a job in the future.

Helen will be leaving on Tuesday 10th March and during her  three week stay she will be living with an Indian family.
