LOCAL BUSINESSES REPRESENT CORNWALL
18th September 2008
Turnbury Golf Club on the west coast of Scotland was the venue for this year's John Deere Team Championship Golf Competition. Representing Cornwall and Devon were Bowood Park Golf Club from Camelford, who were the winners of the local competition which was held in May at Holsworthy Golf Club.
The local competition, held at Holsworthy Golf Club, organised by Cornwall Farmers Professional Groundscare Division proved to be a very entertaining and close fought occasion, 16 teams of 3 members from invited clubs from the Cornwall and Devon trading area played over 18 holes in a Texas scramble format to decide the winners. The course was in wonderful condition and the sun actually made an appearance to make it a very enjoyable day. Bowood won the day with a very impressive score of 56, 14 under par, the prize was an opportunity to play in the final at Turnbury.
The format at Turnbury was again a Texas scramble but this time the team was made up to a 4 man team with a representative from Cornwall Farmers making up the numbers.
Turnbury is the venue for next year's Open Championship, so all the competitors were looking forward to playing on this prestigious course; again they were blessed with good weather. After a slightly faltering start our team again recorded the very impressive score of 56, unfortunately this time it was not quite good enough and gave them 4th place after countback.
Thank you to Bowood for representing our area so admirably.
