New team offers fresh start to feed rations
1 February 2007
Staff promotions within Cornwall Farmers’ animal feed team
promises a bright start to 2007 with plans for further improvements
across their range. The farmer-owned agricultural supplies cooperative,
with an annual turnover of £67 million, produces over 30,000
tonnes of feed from its own Truro based mill. Livestock Divisional
Manager Nigel Weaver said, ‘These changes will undoubtedly
be of benefit to our members both now and in the future.’
Newly appointed Blends Manager Tom Mann, formerly feed specialist
for the Devon area, brings over 20 years of experience to his
new role. ‘We already offer a comprehensive range of products
to suit all farming sectors but we still think there’s room
for improvement and will be looking for ways to simplify the range
whilst keeping up the high standards our customers have come to
rely on,’ said Tom. ‘We try to source locally grown
cereals as much as possible and ensure that all our products are
fully traceable.’
Maximising animal health and performance is a priority for the
new feed team and key members, Mary Else and Andy Hawken, specialise
in mineral and other essential feed additives, working in conjunction
with Angie Williams, Truro Mill Manager. The final member of the
team, Graham Dodd, is responsible for alternative feeds including
supplementary straights. ‘Our own Duchy Blends and Pinnacle
Feed, meet most ruminant requirements but we are pleased to offer
farmers free consultation when it comes to individual feed rations,’
said Graham. ‘Our range also includes products by BOCM Pauls,
based in Exeter, who support us by giving access to leading edge
ruminant and mono-gastric feeding technology. Understanding what
suits particular farm conditions can make all the difference to
final products, performance and profit margins; therefore by working
together, we get the best results.’
Cornwall Farmers has sixteen Farm and Country Stores throughout
