New Director Joins Cornwall Farmers

August 2009

The South West agricultural supply co-operative, Cornwall Farmers, has appointed Mrs Jo Mounce to the position of main board director of Cornwall Farmers.  Mrs Mounce runs the award winning Strawberry Fields enterprise at Lifton, Devon which comprises of Pick Your Own fruit, a farm shop, a bakery and popular restaurant.

“I am delighted to be joining Cornwall Farmers at what is an exciting time for the industry,” remarked Mrs Mounce.  “The co-operative has certainly advanced over the recent years and I am looking forward to contributing to the next phase of its strategic development.”

As a farmer’s daughter, her roots are well grounded in main stream agriculture. However, the experience she gained first hand by starting and growing her own business gives her valuable insight into customer service in the retail environment.

On his appointment, Peter Thomas, Cornwall Famers chairman, informed the membership that he would seek to continue the development of the board by considering skill sets, diversity and representation at each new appointment. It is Peter’s firm view that the board should reflect the demographics of the co-operatives staff and members.

Mrs Mounce’s appointment is a landmark for Cornwall Farmers given she is the first female director in the co-operative’s 90 year history.
