Two of Cornwall Farmers most successful blends go on special offer in January throughout the network of Cornwall Farmers country stores (see list below). Duchy Blends Super Beef for suckler cows, beef animals and young stock, and Duchy Blends Super Sheep (previously known as Hi Energy Sheep), are both top quality, multi-purpose feeds that can be used on their own or in mixes to provide a really efficient boost to the livestock feeding programme.

For January 2011, Cornwall Farmers are giving away one bag of Duchy Blends Super Beef for every ten bags purchased. Also available is a free bag of Super Beef with the purchase of any beef trough. On Super Sheep, Cornwall Farmers are offering one free bag of feed with every ten sheep troughs purchased.

These feeds, with the additional nutritional advice to go with them, are ideal for all ages of beef cattle throughout the year to increase efficiency and profitability of your farm.  For instance, by maximising the feed conversion efficiency (FCE) of young beef cattle with Super Beef, you can finish the animal by as much as three months quicker thus having a massive benefit on the farm cash flow.

How much does the farm need to feed? Well to make sure that the animals are hitting their target Daily Liveweight Gain and leave the farm at the most cost-effective moment it is important to weigh them. Some time and money invested in weighing – such as with the Iconix range of cattle weighing systems – will soon pay for itself. Knowing the weight of an animal leads to really effective feeding based on what the animal actually weighs today, and what is required in the forthcoming months from the feed programme to get it to the right weight at the right time. Trying to do this without weighing usually leads to errors, albeit well-meant but errors nonetheless, such as the costly activity of overestimating the amount of feed required, in other words wasting feed that could be better used elsewhere.

Super Sheep has all the same qualities of Super Beef, but for sheep, being especially effective for ewes, pre-lambing, when half-a-kilo per lamb to be born is the recommended daily intake.
