Meals on Wheels From Cornwall Farmers

Cornwall Farmers recently held a series of open days, as well as demonstrating the Kverneland Siloking mixer wagons, both self propelled and trailed, discussions highlighting the nutritional benefits and potential cost savings of getting the most from silages were given. The Kverneland/Nutritional open days where kindly held by  WJ Thomas & family at Trevear Farm,  Messrs DF & MJ Oliver & Mrs G M Vokes, Lanhydrock Dairy, Tredinnick and Mr James Holland, Holland Farm, Bradstone.

“Meals on Wheels” was the theme to the three open days and were designed to help farmers increase profit from feeding their home grown forage. Discussions throughout the events demonstrating the importance of forage utilisation included, Colin Callendar (Ecosyl) talking about silage and clamp management, Tom Mann (Duchy Blends) highlighting the flexibility that Duchy Blends offer to balance silages and, using the Penn State Separator sieves, Dr Robin Hawkey and Andy Hawken debated forage crop length, optimising mixer wagon operation and rumen health. All in all a very successful turnout of over 100 farmers thought the 3 days.
