Investment In Quality Sheep Feed Will Pay Dividends At Lambing
November 2011
There’s nothing quite like the lambing season to see living proof of the wisdom in investing in high quality feeds: with good fortune the benefits will be there for all to see in a healthy number of fit, young lambs. By providing good quality feed now to sheep currently in lamb, farmers will help to ensure a successful lambing season ahead, which is even more important in times when lamb prices are holding up well, as the return on investment becomes a highly attractive proposition.
Cornwall Farmers new range of CF Duchy blends Super Course Sheep and Super Coarse Lamb and Ewe, and Ewe Milk 18 in the CF Pinnacle feeds range, are designed to produce maximum benefits for farmers who demand the best possible return from their feeds. All these feeds maintain excellent health in the ewe and then strong lambs that will then benefit from top quality milk. The feeds themselves are fixed formulations so the farm knows exactly what it will receive, consistently, during the season.
CF Duchy blends Super Coarse Sheep is a high nutrient density feed for both ewes and lambs, complimenting all types of forage. The digestible fibre helps maintain good appetite and optimum rumen fermentation. High levels of vitamins and minerals increase lamb vigour, encourage earlier suckling and improve lamb survival rates and therefore flock profitability. This is a popular ewe ration for one feed systems, being suitable for both in-lamb ewes and lactating ewes.
CF Duchy blends Super Coarse Lamb and Ewe is a highly-molassed, coarse-mix natural feed with micronized ingredients which make this feed the ideal product for finishing premium and pedigree sheep to a very high standard. It is also a feed favoured by many of the region’s sheep farmers with smaller, more particular flocks and for those selling breeding stock.
Ewe Milk 18 is an ever-popular choice containing high percentages of soya and Megalac and therefore excellent levels of DUP and energy.
Whether feeding blends or compounds, it makes good sense to make sure that all the feed is actually reaching its intended target, as there’s nothing more frustrating than seeing good feed going to waste. Cornwall Farmers has a comprehensive range of feeding troughs and metalwork to ensure the feed is not wasted, and these are currently available in a special seasonal promotion. Currently 9ft galvanised sheep troughs are £23.95 each, alternatively buy 10 to 23 for £22.95 each or 24 or more for £21.95 each, all plus VAT.
